Choosing courses - The Brunts Academy

Choosing courses

The courses offered cater for a range of interests, strengths and ability. We do however try to ensure that appropriate choices are made, so as to avoid problems later on in the year. In general, students will take 3 or 4 AS level/BTEC Level 3 courses, dependent upon their success at GCSE.
Applications from students from other schools are particularly welcomed.
The Sixth Form Administrator is to be contacted for external applications.

Students are encouraged to take into account their:

Interest in the subject

  • Potential chances of success
  • Motivation to succeed
  • Current performance in the subject
  • A positive attitude to study
  • Entry requirements of a particular career

Entry requirements: Circumstances vary from student to student but you will need to have achieved Level 2 (at least 5 higher grade GCSE passes) in order to start Level 3 (AS, BTEC, Applied A Level, OCR National) courses. It is advised that you speak with relevant subject staff before choosing a course. Some A Level courses recommend at least a B Grade at GCSE to allow you to study them so you have the best chance of success.
